Practical questions
Sex therapy or urology: what should the referral answer?
“Sex doctor” is a search phrase, not a complete explanation of a professional’s qualifications. The right pathway depends on the concern: pain, erection changes, ejaculation, distress or relationship difficulties may call for different skills. Medical assessment and psychosexual therapy can complement one another rather than competing for the same explanation.
General information for adults. Not a substitute for medical assessment.

Start with the question you need answered
Describe the main symptom, when it began and whether there are physical changes or significant distress. A primary-care clinician can assess common medical contributors and direct a referral. New genital pain, bleeding, sores or urinary problems should not be assigned to a relationship issue without appropriate medical review.

Ask what each professional does
Urology commonly assesses urinary and male genital problems. Other concerns may need gynaecology, endocrinology or another specialty. Psychosexual therapy explores sexual difficulties, feelings, behaviours and relationship context through talking and agreed tasks. It is not sexual contact with a therapist, and a therapist should explain their approach and professional boundaries.

Verify credentials and consent arrangements
Ask for the full professional name, relevant qualifications and local registration where applicable. Check what a session includes, whether an examination is proposed, and how consent and chaperone requests are handled. A broad marketing title or overseas membership does not by itself establish permission to practise a particular service in Dubai.

Keep referrals connected
Ask what information will be shared with your permission, who remains responsible for medicine decisions and when the referral will be reviewed. You can ask to attend alone; partner involvement should be agreed, not imposed. Confirm fees and availability directly. This information guide does not certify a named practitioner or guarantee access to a service.

Common questions
Does a therapy referral mean the symptom is imaginary?
No. Physical, emotional and relationship factors can coexist, and therapy may support care alongside medical assessment.
Must my partner attend?
Not automatically. Discuss your preference and the clinician’s recommendation; involvement should be by agreement.
Can a website title prove local professional registration?
No. Obtain the professional’s details and verify the relevant registration through the appropriate authority.
Sources and information limits
Sources support general medical principles, not the UAE booking policies or service availability. Confirm instructions and local arrangements with the care provider. The update date does not claim clinician review.
Content policy and review statusQuestions before arranging an appointment?
Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
